How to Create Front Views to a drawing using a 3D Part | 3DEXPERINCE CATIA

In this Tech Tip you will learn to add a front view to a drawing using a 3D Part.

Some of the key points to take away from this Tech Tip are in generative drafting, you can only generate a front view when you have a 3D Part open. All projected views are established from the front view, either directly or indirectly. You can independently add other views, such as isometric, for drawing clarity. Also, make sure you are in the Drafting application and have at least one 3D Part open.

How to Create Front Views to a drawing using a 3D Part | 3DEXPERINCE CATIA

Step 1

Make sure you have an open in Part Design.

Next open the Drafting App from the ADD icon drop down menu in the Five Services

Step 2

Begin the procedure in the drafting application and go to the Section Bar and select View Layout. In the Action Bar section select the downward arrow to show a pop up menu. Select Front View, as shown in the image above.

Step 3

Go up to the part model tab and select it.

The part model file will then appear.

In order to create a front view in the drawing window you have to select a face of the part model. 

Step 4

In the Graphics window of the part file, pick the top face.

Notice the preview window showing the orientation of the view.

Step 5

Use the View Manipulator in the upper right corner of the drawing window and click the arrow labeled 1 (up arrow) in the first figure to rotate the view until it matches the orientation shown in the second figure.

Step 6

Click the button labeled 2 (round center) in the first figure to generate the view.
