Creating a Shell in a Solid Body in 3dexperience
Ever wonder how to create a perfect shell in a solid body? This tech tip from the Tata Technologies I GET IT Team will demonstrate how to create a perfect shell in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA. Follow the steps below to learn!
In this Tech Tip, we will show you how to remove material on one side of a plastic drill driver body using the Shell command while in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA.
Step 1

Go to the Section Bar and in Model select Shell.
Step 2
The Shell Definition dialog appears. For the Default inside thickness we will place a value of ‘2 mm’, for the Default outside thickness we will place a value of ‘0 mm’. For this example we will leave Other thickness faces as No selection. Make sure Propagate faces to remove is checked in its box, as shown in the image below.

Next, we will select the faces on the drill driver body marked with the number 1 as shown in the image above. This is where the material will be removed from the solid body. The holes in the drill driver body were not selected and they will be given a ‘2 mm’ boss wall as well as the outer wall of the drill driver body.
Step 3
Select OK to create the Shell. Notice the shell feature and how the pockets created from a previous steps are now screw bosses for connecting two body halves together.

And there you go! I hope this helps you become more productive in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA.
