7 Pillars of Simulation on 3D Experience Platform
Both 3DX Platform as well as this blog room have been around since few years. Though we discussed user level details of 3DX Platform such as different roles and apps, licensing etc. we never covered a 360 degrees overview on benefits of simulation on platform. In this blog we will highlight the 7 pillars of values that simulation on 3D Experience platform offers:
- Designer in Mind
Fast set up with guided workflows, checks to indicate completeness in assistant panel, explanatory notes in guided workflow about feature usage, ability to create features on the fly. One distinguished feature: results visualization on the web browser from anywhere, anytime. The list goes on and the attached video shows much better than what can be explained in words.
- Technology
What you saw in the video might be something be very new to an analyst. However, the behind the scene solver technology is still your trustworthy Abaqus solver. The key benefit is that Abaqus usage has been made easy enough for designers. However, there is a limit on how far a designer can go in terms of modeling complexity.

- Integration
What an analyst would do if there is a design modification based on first simulation results! In many cases the manual simulation set up process must be repeated all over again. 3D Experience platform offers interoperability between CAD, CAE and PLM with a flexibility of coexistence between CATIA V5-6 and 3D Experience platform. Again, a video here explains much better than words.
- Collaboration
3D Experience platform offers “single source of truth” in terms of versioning, traceability and re-use of intellectual assets. It offers a real time concurrent engineering and collaboration connecting designers, engineers, simulation experts, sales and marketing. The data has a central storage which can be either on premise or on cloud.
- Scalability
As mentioned before, designers can effectively simulate only a certain limit of complexity in terms of geometry and physics. The advanced simulation is still forte of an analyst. 3D Experience offers domain scalability for all user skill levels. This means that a designer can perform linear stress analysis on a product which is at concept design and later an analyst can perform detailed non linear validation on same design.

- Productivity:
3D Experience means upgrade from a file and folder based data to an object oriented data management system in which all the design objects, simulation objects and other PLM objects and documents as well as their revisions can be effectively stored, traced, modified, reused and released. There are simulation scenarios that create multiple iterations due to design of experiments and optimization techniques. Such process workflows generate enormous amount of results data that can be overwhelming to manage. The multi disciplinary optimization functionality of 3D Experience platform offers tools to create and execute such processes as well as advanced result analytics tools to make smart conclusions from big simulation results data.
- On Cloud:
New start up IPO’s are booming irrespective of economic uncertainties. If you are a start up organization, you may not like to dry out your budget because of enormous upfront IT expenditure. The on premise HPC cost is more than cost of just hardware and software. It’s the hidden cost that may be difficult to account for during budgetary process.

The on cloud version of 3D Experience platform is easy to buy, easy to deploy, easy to use and easy to grow organically. In terms of simulation, 3DX on cloud offers burst compute credits to meet occasional peak demands. Unlike Abaqus tokens, credits are much cheaper alternative to multi CPU processing to meet short term simulation demands.
