What’s new in 3DExperience 2024x – Structures Simulations Part III

This blog is the last one in a series of structural enhancements on the 3DExperience platform. We will cover the results updates and the durability roles updates.

Physics Results Explorer Updates

  • Sensors from X-Y plots: Sensors have been a feature of CATIA V5 that is now fully supported in the 3DExperience platform. Sensor based outputs are useful in situations when results of one simulation serve as input for other simulation, particularly a local result. An example would be a reaction force sensor at a critical point serving as an objective function in an optimization. Sensors can be created from X-Y data based on history output, fields, expressions, or path.                                         2023xFD01

Results Diagnostics: Everything is good if simulation converges. However, Abaqus standard fails without convergence as well. In such a situation, the diagnostics features of results explorer have not been at par with standalone products such as Abaqus CAE. Not anymore. The same diagnostics is now available in Results Explorer. User can see location and values of residual forces, residual displacements, SDI nodes and other contact-based diagnostics at increment and iteration level. This data is very helpful to see the location of convergence failure and update the model accordingly before subsequent job submission.                                                                                                           2023xFD02

  • X-Y plot export: This feature has been present for a while. However, now it is possible to export multiple X-Y plots to a singe csv file at the same time.                                                                   2023xFD02
  • Query Tool: The query tool allows the user to print the text value of a node based or element-based output either by picking the entity in viewport or by entering the entity ID such as node or element number. The text data can later be exported to a text file as well.                                               2023xFD02
  • Display Mesh: There are situations when certain parts of an assembly do not take part in simulation but their display in the results enhances the visualization. It is possible now to display such entities in results using a surface display mesh feature. Common applicable scenarios are rigid bodies display and coupling display in 3Dimension.                                                                                                        2023xFD04
  • Cloud visualization of results: This feature makes results visualization on cloud much faster by drastically reducing the amount of data transfer between user and cloud server during post processing. The 3D Rendering process is executed on cloud instead of user machine and only a stream of pixels is transferred to user machine post rendering. It’s a very beneficial feature for viewing animations of large models on cloud.                                                                                       2024xGA

Durability Updates

RECAP: The fatigue capabilities are built in structural roles. The mechanical scenario app includes all the Fe-Safe fatigue capabilities including verity, FKM, vibration and TMF. The structural scenario app includes only base metal fatigue. Having said that, base metal fatigue can be purchased separately as FGP role and full fatigue capabilities can be purchased separately as FGM role. This is applicable in cases when the user is doing structural simulation in a role that does not include fatigue capabilities.

  • Weld Configuration Updates: Old verity has only 10 weld configurations. The weld fillet is modeled at a 45 degrees angle, and it is possible to define up-to 22 degrees tolerance on ideal configurations. In the new release, all configuration and angle restrictions have been removed. This provides flexibility as well as the option to capture curved welds where the angle changes continuously.        2023xFD02
  • Brown Miller: The algorithm has been enhanced to accommodate highly non-proportional loading. It also runs 2X faster.                                                                                                                                      2023xFD01
  • Verity: In previous releases, the equivalent structural stress is first computed on all nodes across all data sets and then superposition or scaling is applied on equivalenced stress. The method has been turned around. Now the structural stress is computed across all data sets and first superimposed or scaled. The equivalence is done at the end.                                                                                 2023xFD01
  • DTMF: The fe-safe/turbolife has been retired in 2024GA and it has been replaced by DTMF in the 3DExperience platform. It is a low cycle thermo mechanical fatigue with creep and temperature dependent material behavior. Requires visco-plastic stress modeling with S, EE, PE and NT output.
